Breathers Birthday Bash Giveaway

It’s a birthday bash for Andy, Rita, Jerry, and the rest of the gang at Undead Anonymous.  That’s right.  Two years ago tomorrow, Breathers hit the shelves in the U.S. and Canada.  To mark the occasion, I’m going to be giving away a signed copy of Breathers.

But that’s not all!

Tomorrow also marks the birth of Breathers in the United Kingdom, with a spiffy new cover. (Check it out on Amazon UK.)  So I’m including a signed copy of the UK edition, as well.  Two books for the price of none.  How can you beat that?

But wait, there’s more!

Act now and I’ll also throw in a signed copy of Fated, which has only been out for four months and is just a baby in book years, but I didn’t want Fabio, Karma, and Death to feel left out.

That’s right.  For the price of nothing, you get signed copies of all three books!

I’ll also be giving away a signed copy of the UK version of Breathers to two other lucky winners.

So three winners in all!

To enter, just leave a comment on this blog post with some way to contact you and, if you’re so inclined, include a note as to your favorite character in Breathers or Fated.  If you haven’t read the books, that’s okay.  There’s no judgment here.

And feel free to sign up for the RSS feed (at the top, right next to the navigation bar).

Contest runs until 11:59pm PST Sunday, March 6th.  Winners will be chosen from all entrants using a random number generator.  (Unfortunately, I do have to limit this to U.S. residents only, so my apologies.)

Ready?  Go!  And good luck!

  1. I am so excited that Breathers is now 2!

Now, my favorite character has got to be Rita from Breathers. She exudes sexual energy and confidence. She wrote her own rules. When I read the book, I told all my friends that when I grew up (and become a zombie) that I want to be just like Rita.

  3. This is great. I’ve been meaning to read Breathers and I can’t believe it’s already going to be two years old. I have to get better at this reading thing :)

Happy Birthday to you Breathers! Congratulations to you as well!

  4. Rita’s a good character, but I really like Jerry.
As for Fated, well… Fabio. I know he’s the protagonist and everything, but I really felt for him and wanted to slap Destiny.

  6. I own both Breathers and Fated, and they are seriously two of my favorite books!! I also have a few tattoos here and there (around 30) and I plan on getting the cover art from Breathers as my next tattoo!! I really, really, really hope that Breathers becomes a movie. It’s one of those great books that I can see the characters in my mind as I read it, and it would be amazing on the big screen!

Congrats on the two year Birthday!! I can’t wait to read more from you!!

  7. Even if I’m not a U.S. resident, I want to say something about my favorite characters: in Breathers I love Jerry, so funny and “artistic, and speaking about Fated I think that everyone in this book is amazing, from Jerry to Karma, but I definitely like Denny.
I want to thank you for writing such amazing books and I’ve been proud get the chance to work on them!

  8. I loved Breathers and am definitely digging the new U.K cover! I even got the Breathers app on my iPod so I could keep up with the gang! Such a great story to get invested in! I really hope I get chosen – that would be the ultimate in fandom!

    Happy Birthday to you Breathers!

  9. Two of my favorite books, easy. I’m a sucker for the main characters in both. Something about them (Andy and Fate of course =P) just makes me fall in love with them.
No matter what the outcome of the contest, I wish you more wonderful writing. And happy birthday Breathers!

  10. Fated is tied as my all time favorite book. (My other favorite is Lamb). Fabio is my favorite character because I can relate to not always coming on top.

  11. While Fabio is my favorite character, especially considering his eventual Destiny- I so love Karma- despite the fact that he never misses an opportunity to bite me in the you know what every chance he gets.

But Fabio? I understand his impatience with the world at large and wanting to help move things along.

I cannot believe it has already been two years.

  12. Congratulations! This is a great milestone and a foretaste of things to come. Happy birthday to all!

  13. It’s always great when a “favoured child” turns two. Congratulations. And I am one of the few (it appears) who has not read Breathers (sorry) but will do so … looks excellent!

  14. Aww. I remember going Red, White, and Dead as Rita (which I still do)! Still haven’t grabbed a copy of Fated yet, and always in need of a “loaner” copy of Breathers so my signed one never has to leave my room. ;)

    Comment by Tori — March 2, 2011 @ 12:34 pm

  15. Congratulations! C: Fated shot to the top five of my all-time favorite book list as soon as I finished it and I wouldn’t stop bugging everyone I know to read it. I haven’t had the time to get Breathers yet, but I’m definitely gonna get on that once the semester’s through.

On a side note, Fabio is totally my favorite since I’m a sucker for sarcastic protagonists who mean well, but I gotta give a shout out to Dennis too. He just seems like a super suave dude, y’know? I definitely wouldn’t mind chilling with either of them in the Village, haha. :) Destiny, on the other hand, I wanted to smack about halfway through the book.

    Comment by Arielle — March 2, 2011 @ 2:03 pm

  16. All of your characters are hilarious. How can one be forced to choose, especially when it comes to the Fated crew. I gotta admit though, I do sort of have a thing for Destiny…

    Comment by Aaron — March 2, 2011 @ 3:19 pm

  17. Woo! Love both the books, loving the UK cover of Breathers.

  20. Happy Birthday, Breathers!
After I read Breathers I insisted all of my friends read it. Those who took my advice loved it as well! The characters are so rich with life even though they’re dead! I loved them all for different reasons!

Now with Fated I am once again pestering everyone I know to pick it up! I admit I actually cried toward the end!

    Comment by Crystal — March 3, 2011 @ 5:10 pm

  21. Ooh! I’m in love with the UK cover. They always seem to get awesome covers.
Hmm, favourite characters… Personally, I enjoy Andy, Fabio, and Death. I feel like I can relate well with Andy and Fabio, aside from having to take Pine Sol baths and, in Fabio’s case, wearing a man-suit. As for Death, I just adore him.

    Comment by Alexis — March 3, 2011 @ 5:21 pm

  22. Happy birthday, Breathers! I already have a copy of Fated, but boy would I love to get signed copies of all three books. My favorite character is Sara from Fated, because I just didn’t think someone in her position could win me over, but she really did. Thanks so much!

    Comment by Benni — March 3, 2011 @ 7:12 pm

  23. Great books! I need to get a copy of Breathers. I’d have to say that Fabio and Dennis were my favorite characters of Fated. Wonderful reads thank you!

  24. I live in Belfast and have only recently been given a US copy of Breathers as a Valentines present.

    Just finished it last night.

    Fantastic Book! Just Fantastic!

Over the past couple weeks, as well as being engrossed in the story, you have also made me pause and reassess my favourite Zombie Movies and see them anew through Andy’s perspective.

    And for that, thank you.

I read the final cemetery scene frantically hoping the ending would go the ‘Hollywood’ way, which is not typical of my usual dark desires. But a day later, on reflection, I think the ending is just right.

I am going to buy a copy of the UK book for a fellow lover of all things Zombie and start the UA conversion in Ireland. And I am just about to buy a copy of Fate for me.

Finally, maybe you (and the random number generator) might reconsider excluding those outside the US from the contest?

    Comment by Darren — March 4, 2011 @ 8:49 am

  25. Thanks for all of the comments and congratulations and birthday wishes for Breathers. And thanks for including thoughts on your favorite characters. That’s always fun to hear.

And for those of you not in the U.S. and who have taken the time to comment and plead your case, I will throw your name into the Random Number Generator, as well.

  26. I’m a big fan of both of these novels! I finished them over two days, and loved them each in their own way. I thought I would prefer “Breathers” because it was a zombie novel, but I actually loved “Fated” just as much. Rita was my favorite character though!

I’m really jealous of that UK cover. =)

  27. love Breathers and Fated, best stories ever keep up the great work!

  28. LOVED Breathers! Andy was definitely my favorite. I’m reading Fated now, and so far Karma is my favorite. I’m also going through your list of favorite books you read last year- Duma Key rocks.
    Keep going!

  29. I love Breathers, Andy and his cohorts are more human and sympathetic than most real people I know. Then again it’s hard to smell their zombie stank from the written page… ;)

    I especially loved the ending!

  30. Awesome! I borrowed a copy to read, would love one of my own!

    Comment by Wendy — March 6, 2011 @ 10:02 am

  31. I would say Andy was my fave character. He is the focal character and therefore fleshed out (;-]) which makes it easier to feel and empathize with his undead life story.

    Comment by shirl — March 6, 2011 @ 10:15 am

  32. I love Both Books, Actually Breathers what started My passion on reading. But I would say, Andy is my favorite character. Just the way the story was told, I felt I was there living to be undead.

    Comment by Mindy — March 6, 2011 @ 10:47 am

  33. I am the proud owner of both books but I have an insane appreciation for Fated and all of it’s characters. My favorite character was Fate because he was so “human” in being torn between making decisions not only for his humans lives but for his own as well while constantly being mocked by Destiny and her success.

    Comment by Jess — March 6, 2011 @ 5:47 pm

  34. Just recently picked up Fated and immediately poured through it. Such a fresh concept and executed to perfection.

Immediately picked up breathers and agian was blown away by the uniqueness and voice.

Have recommended both highly and know that you have a well devoted fan.

Of the two books, I would have to say my favorite character was Jerry. Being an athetist, it appreciated the casual take on God and the consistant ” oh my jerry”

  35. Fated is awesome! And I think I like Sara the best!
