Fiction Friday: Books, Books, Books
Having just finished up reading Big Machine by Victor Lavalle, which I’ll review next week, I now have the task of picking another book to read from my To-Be-Read pile, which is really more like two piles plus half of a shelf on one of my bookcases, which comes to a grand total of twenty books. And that doesn’t include a couple of PDF books I have on my computer.
For the sake of fitting what I could into a single picture, here’s a sample of what I have to choose from:
The stack isn’t indicative of the order in which I plan to read all of these, but includes:
Ravens by George Dawes Green
Gator A-Go-Go by Tim Dorsey
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Spook by Mary Roach
Juliet Naked by Nick Hornby
I Am Not a Serial Killer by Dan Wells
The Big Nowhere by James Ellroy
A Scanner Darkly by Philip K. Dick
The Informers by Bret Easton Ellis
It also includes my favorite title of the bunch, The Apocalypse and Satan’s Glory Hole by Timothy Long and Jonathan Moon, which has been on my stack for much too long. (Hangs head in shame.)
So what’s on your stack to read? And can you beat twenty books?
My stack was seventeen but my boy just piled on the Harry Potter collection. I see your twenty and raise you twenty-four.

If it helps you narrow the pile down any, I strongly disliked “The Passage” :)

And as for THE PASSAGE, I received this for free at a book signing, where they were giving out free copies to everyone. Otherwise I probably wouldn’t have picked it up.

I’ve got you beat by over 1000. To be exact, I’ve got 1039 books (mostly paper but a few hundred on my Kindles as well) in my “to read” stack although since we are putting our house up on the market I’m down to about 150 plus the Kindle books sitting here staring at me.
And as for The Passage, I felt that parts of it were interesting but it definitely bogged down in the middle.

Ooh, read The Book Thief next. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it and I’m curious to hear your take on it.
I’m critiquing a friend’s novel now, then get to choose from a dozen or so books on my shelf.

The Book Thief is high up on my list, though I may not get to it next. I’m thinking I’ll go with Gator A-Go-Go by Tim Dorsey, then move on from there.
Oh, and ON A PALE HORSE by Piers Anthony just got added to the stack.

YA librarian, so I have Juvenile Lit, YA lit, and just Adult lit on my pile. I won’t count picture books because that would be unfair… I think I have about 30 on my goodreads “to read” queue, some squirreled away in my desk at the library, and some ARCs that I should read before they actually come out.
That said, I’m currently debating about which of those hot adult titles I should actually try, since I often don’t agree with the masses. PARTICULAR SADNESS OF LEMON CAKE, ROOM, and THE HELP being some of those in consideration.

Thanks for a glimpse at your book shelf.
Since I book review blog and write both fantasy and historical fiction, I have a large stack of books, too. :o)
I’m reading “Lady of the Mist,” by Laurie Alice Eakes at the moment. It’s pretty good.

Thanks for sharing, Janalyn. I’ve decided on Gator A-Go-Go by Tim Dorsey, which is very different than anything I’ve read before. Kind of a manic Elmore Leonard on meth. But fun.

Funny that I should come across this blog entry today. My to-read stack has never been this high and it’s making me a little anxious but in a good way. I have the imminent closing of my nearest Borders to thank for part of this situation. My stack consists of decidedly feminine books and consists of: Fast Women by jennifer crusie The Love of Life by harriet evans, Clara and Mr. Tiffany by susan vreeland, Grave Secret by charlaine harris, The Black Moth by georgette heyer, The Grand Sophy by georgette heyer; Dead in the Family, From Dead to Worse, Dead to the World by charlaine harris, There’s No Place Like Here by cecilia ahern, A Total Waste of Makeup by kim gruenenfelder. The Hobbit is always at the bottom of whatever stack it gets put under.
